Australia Turns The Heat On !!!

WWC World Wakeboard Championships 2003

By Colin Hart, Chairman World Wakeboard Council

Everyone is really stoked by the event in Sydney, Australia, which is just days away.

Since the first WWC World Championships in the South of France, we have taken the event to the heart of a big game reserve in South Africa, Sun City, the middle of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and this year is no exception in Australia. Each year seems to be getting bigger and better, it's tremendous to see the Cash Prize Pro Event and the sheer number of riders, teams and countries attending.

Tige the Official Towboat will sponsor the Cash Purse event following the conclusion of the WWC World Championships.

Wakeboarding has a great community and travelling to different venues and countries helps promote the sport internationally as well as making major impact on the local interest and media and, without a doubt, the riders enjoy the different cultures and party scene - it will be a blast.

Riders will also be invited to special events such as the Sydney Harbour Cruise Party, underneath Sydney Bridge and close to the Opera House, the very best way to see the site and party from a 300 person party boat, together with a wakeboard party with live music on the Sunday evening.

Australia has always been strong in the wakeboarding scene, producing some of the Worlds leading riders. Last year in Rio de Janeiro, Australia won 1st Place for the Team Championships - Can they repeat it ?

It is encouraging to see the industry in Australia behind this event, and the organisation is first class by Neil and Brenda Harris who have been involved with wakeboarding for over 10 years.

Interest in future World Championships keeps growing and in some very exciting and interesting venues, attracting large numbers of spectators.
