Hello again, Water Ski World Cup sponsors, organizers, skiers, fans. If you are wondering why you haven't heard from us lately, our e-mail system crashed and had to be replaced. If you have e-mailed us anything in the past four weeks, we did not get it! But the new system is now up and running. Record-breaking crowds both Saturday and Sunday made the event the biggest tour stop in central Florida in many years. Official numbers showed 5,350 for Saturday and 9,100 for Sunday, making the two-day total over 14,000 people. Chief announcer Tony Lightfoot brought more international flavor to the event and continuously pumped up the crowd on the World Cup. Tony's European accent only served to add to the international flavor. ESPN2 crews made the transition to the World Cup by billing the Orlando stop as "Stop No. 2 of the World Cup," rather than the first stop of the US Pro Tour. Thanks to Russell Morris for providing footage from Moomba, which will be used on the Orlando show as preview material -- which will provide a seamless transition between the two events. ORLANDO PLAYS HOST TO WORLD CUP ORGANIZERS -- Many World Cup organizers attended the Orlando event including Gil Hill (British Masters), Russell Morris (Moomba Masters), Thomas Strunck (German Cup), Larry Meddock (US Masters) and Duke Waldrop (US Open). Organizers had an opportunity to meet one another, schmooze potential sponsors and soak up the Florida sunshine prior to the organizers' meeting following the event. A good time was had by all at the World Cup Reception Saturday evening. CHARLESTON PREVIEW -- The next stop on the World Cup is in Charleston, South Carolina, May 3-4. Men's jump and men's slalom will take place. The site -- Trophy Lakes -- is multi-lake facility that is within 6 miles of downtown Charleston. It has world-class skiing conditions. Directions from airport: Take I-26 East to Exit 221 (17 South). Take 17 South to 171 East (Folley Road) to Highway 700 West (Maybank Highway). Take Maybank past River Road to Sailfish Road. (Sailfish is a 1/2 mile past River Road/Maybank intersection.) Directions from Florida (for those driving from the Sunshine State): Take I-95 to Exit 33. Then take Highway 17 North 30 miles to second light. Turn right onto Main Road. Go 2 miles to first light; turn left onto River Road. Go to next stoplight, turn right onto Maybank Highway. Go 1/2 mile to Sailfish Road. Turn right on Sailfish and take first left onto Marlin. FOOTNOTE If you have any comments on this newsletter or questions, please e-mail me or fax me ...
