1999 SKI FLY RULES (Provisional)

These rules represent modifications and additions to the standard 1999 IWSF Rules

TOW LINES (reference IWSF 10.04, 10.05, 10.06)

A contestant may furnish his own line and handle for the ski fly event and of any dimensions or material. Length of the handle attachment measured from the inside surface of the attaching loop furthest from the handle to the center portion of the handle furthest from the attaching loop must be no longer than 32.0m (105 ft).

RAMP (Refer to IWSF Diagram 2)

The ramp must be parallel to the jump course with a tolerance of +7 degrees open & 0 degrees closed. Open means the high end of the jump ramp is turned away from the jump course. The basis of the jump course is the 19st - 19mt line.

DESCRIPTION OF JUMP RAMP (Refer to IWSF 13.02)

The jump ramp should be an inclined plane with an apron on the right hand side. The ramp shall meet the following specifications:

  1. Length out of the water: 7.45m (24' 5") at all points - (7.40-7.50)
  2. Height of ramp 1.78m (5'10") - as required to meet angle specification
  3. angle 0.239 +/- 0.003

FLATNESS OF RAMP (Refer to 13.02 f)

f) The surface must be flat with a maximum deviation of 5.0 cm. from a plane.

Please refer to IWSF rule book for the following for they will remain the same:

JUMP SPEEDS

  1. Speed control will be used
  2. The max speed of 72 km/h (45 mph). or lower will remain constant in the 82m section.
  3. Speed may increase 8 km/h (5 mph). in the 41m section from start speed.
  4. Timing charts to be supplied

ROUNDS

Each event shall consist of no more than 4 rounds. All flyers qualified to ski in an event must ski in the preliminary round of that event.

NUMBER OF JUMPS IN ELIMINATIONS AND FINALS

Each contestant shall be allowed three registered jumps in elimination and finals.

BOAT PATH

This will be further detailed by a diagram. Basically the skier will have the option to have a straight path parallel to the jump or to have the boat angle away from the jump after passing through the 82m timing segment.

PYLON SPECIFICATIONS

The pylon specifications will remain the same except that the height of the pylon will be no higher than 130cm (approx 50").

Non-Official reference buoys for spectators

Distance buoys will be placed every 3m starting at 67m (220') ending at 79m (260').
