DUISBURG - Germany -August 5th 2001

This week end I was present at a wonderful and spectacular event for the First World Cable-Wakeboard Championships

More than 100 riders from 16 different nations from the three Region have created a fantastic competition

More than 6,000 people were present  every day  in the beautiful "Wasserski Strandbad Wedau" park, an area located in a sport centre with facilities totally devoted to water sports in the heart of Duisburg, a city that has half a million inhabitants.

The results have shown the very high level reached by this discipline, a level that was unthinkable  until a year ago.. All this strengthens the convinction that this discipline will develop fast in the near future.

Cable centres are spreading in every continent and Wakeboard is more and more linked to the Cable; it is still uncertain but there are good chances that the next  2002 championships will be hosted in Australia , a country that secured during these worlds 4 medals, 3 of which are gold medals.

The finals were attended also by the executive members of the  Organising Comitate for the next World Games  that will be staged in Duisburg in 2005.

There is the possibility for the Cable-Wakeboard to be included - in addition to Barefoot and Tournament - in the next  2005 World Games. These two last disciplines will be present at the World Games in Akita  from next August 20 to 27 along with Wakeboard -Boat that will be present for the first time.

At the Akita World Games we will have the pleasure to host the delegation of the Organising Comitate for Duisburg 2005.

For all information you may contact the Chairman of the discipline, Mr. Hans Otte; his e-mail address is: Wakeboard-Otte-Berlin@t-online.de
