For promotional reasons also non-IWSF sanctioned athletes were accepted, a extra-ordinary exception that was consented by the IWSF Executive Board during their meeting in Milan 1999. There were no limits on event qualification to ski in the Championship. The organisers think it should stay the same to attract newer athletes and not be an obstacle for younger generation of athletes.

The result was a very exciting championship, organised in an excellent way and with a considerable number of skiers. Medals were shared among more than one team skiers. Usually one team would dominate all events with the same skiers. Although most Gold medals were won by UAE athletes, medals were won from 4 different countries and 12 different athletes. Ladies events saw more domination from fewer athletes. In fact there were quite few female Athletes. From the total 9 ladies only 4 skied in all three events.

For sure if both of Japan and Singapore participated with more skiers we would have seen stronger competition from these countries. Unfortunately they only sent one athlete each.

Notwithstanding the fact that there were no limits on event qualification to enter the skiing Level was good. It is clear that the teams really prepared for this championships. Going through all the scores you can see that the level is picking up with many scores well above the RL entry level.

Looking on the technical side, most of latest technologies available to our sport was used. Video jump, Speed Control and automatic timing. Correct Craft 95 boats were used, one with new engine.

The judging panel show that there is enough International judges to have had a RL homologation to this Championship. Unfortunately the system on appointing the judges to this Championship did not limit the minimum requirements for the judging panel.

The AA region has done very well to have this Championship over the years. It is a very good introduction step for new Federation in Asia.

It is hoped that the Asian Championships can develop to become a high level IWSF calendar competition, and surely the standard of the competition in Ras Al Khaimah was an excellent argument for this.
