WATERSKI & WAKEBOARD WORLD CUP 2005
SELECTION CRITERIA ANNOUNCED BY
IWSF
The International Waterski Federation today announced the selection
criteria for the 2005 Waterski & Wakeboard World Cup
Building on the success of last year’s
inaugural event which featured Stops in France, Britain, Russia, Singapore,
China and Qatar, this new programme will again focus on downtown locations which
attract large numbers of spectators. The full 2005 Calendar will be published
shortly and it is now time to see who will qualify for this next global
adventure.
As before, both Waterskiers and Wakeboard
Riders will compete. So, who are the very best in the World and what are
the qualification standards ?
The International Waterski Federation
announced the qualification criteria for the Waterskiers today – with the
Wakeboard Riders details to follow shortly. These are truly a test of the very
best.
Entry will be restricted to the following
numbers in each discipline :
SLALOM – 16 Men & 10 Women
TRICKS –
12 Men & 8 Women
JUMP – 12 Men & 8 Women
There are basically EIGHT different ways to
win a place on the Starting Dock of the 2005 World Cup. Qualification will be
granted if the athlete holds any one or more of the following achievements
:
1. Current World Champion
2. Current
World Record holder
3. Placed in the Top 4 in the 2004 World Cup
4. Placed
in the Top 4 in the Oct 2004 IWSF Ranking List for Men’s Slalom
5. Placed in
the Top 3 in the Oct 2004 IWSF Ranking List for all others
6. Placed in the
Top 4 in the 2004 Elite Ranking List for Men’s Slalom
7. Placed in the Top 3
in the 2004 Elite Ranking List for all others
8. Placed 2nd or 3rd in the
last World Championships
Within the limits of the places available in each discipline above for
both Men and Women, the remaining places will be filled from the IWSF Ranking
and Elite lists. However, ONE place will be kept open. So, if you happen to be a
talented male or female Waterski athlete who now has a sinking feeling because
you just did not make it through this achievement list, all is not lost. The
IWSF has just announced a new and novel second chance method to join this
distinguished group. It is simply called the SKI IN route. This is how it
will work.
Performances from L or R rated Tournaments
between January 1st 2005 and the period up to 10 days prior to the first
2005 World Cup Stop will be used to select the single reserved SKI IN place in
each event. This will be based on the best performance by a Skier not already
selected by the aforementioned criteria or from the Lists. This could well
introduce some surprises.
Even a cursory look at these entry
qualifications tells us that the level of talent which we will be able to enjoy
in the 2005 World Cup will again make this a battle of only the very best.
Already the data bases have been scoured
and some well known names have emerged from this challenging test. The full
lists can be viewed on www.iwsf.com
