SEVENTEEN NATIONS RESPOND TO WORLD CUP 2004
With over thirty million Waterskiers in the
World today, all eyes are now focused on the first two Waterski and Wakeboard World Cup
Stops of the season in France and Russia. These will be followed by Stops in the UK,
Singapore, China, USA, and Qatar.
The first 2004 Wakeboard World Cup Stop is
scheduled for Enghien-les-Bains in France on June 19th and 20th. Four weeks later, the
first Waterski World Cup Stop is scheduled for Dubna in Russia on July 24th and
25th. At this point, the response from both Wakeboard and Waterski athletes around
the World has been outstanding.
The Wakeboard entry list for the
Enghien-les-Bains Stop in France is now fully subscribed. It includes Riders from nine
countries, the six time World Tour Champion, Darin Shapiro (USA) and recent World
Champion, Jeff Weatherall (NZL). With the downtown city location near Paris, over
20,000 spectators are expected to attend this spectacular first glimpse of the new World
Cup format.
The official Waterski list of athletes
accepted for Dubna in Russia has also just been released by the IWSF. This includes
Skiers from no less than seventeen nations - from Europe, Russia, North America, South
America, Australia and New Zealand. As in France, the Dubna Stop in Russia is also a
perfect downtown venue. There, 30,000 spectators are expected.
The record cash prize total for the World Cup
now amounts to over US$650,000. The Waterski entrants include World Jump and Slalom
Champion Emma Sheers (AUS), World Tricks Champion Mandy Nightingale (USA), World Jump
Record holder and World Tricks Champion Jimmy Siemers (USA), World Tricks Record holder
Nicolas LeForestier (FRA) and World Jump Champion Freddy Krueger (USA). National Champions
from Denmark, Austria, France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Greece, Agentina,
Chile, Mexico and Canada, will also compete. With such a high quality field, the new 2004
Waterski and Wakeboard World Cup promises to produce some outstanding results.
Final contracts for extensive Worldwide TV and Press coverage have now been concluded and full details will be announced shortly.
