By any standards, the Waterski World Cup Stop staged in Dubna, Russia, on July 25th and 26th was a resounding success. With 24,000 spectators in attendance on day one and 30,000 on day two, this was an outstanding achievement for both the Sport and a location which had not staged an international event on this large scale before.

The significant investment by the City of Dubna, supported by the Governor of the Region of Moscow, produced a high standard infrastructure for watersports within easy reach of Moscow and it's 12 million population. This is what made it most appealing as a venue to the International Waterski Federation for the staging of a Stop of the Waterski World Cup. The City will later this year host a leg of the Formula 2000 Power Boat races.  Both the Mayor of Dubna, Valery Prokh, and the Governor of the Region of Moscow, Boris Gromov, attended the Waterski World Cup Stop in Dubna.

Less than one week after the Waterski World Cup Stop in Russia, it was announced today that the Mayor of Dubna, Valery Prokh, and the President of the International Waterski Federation, Kuno Ritschard, have reached an agreement for another Stop in July 2005. Additional investment is planned in the site on the Volga River and discussions will continue on how to develop or add other events to support the Waterski World Cup formula with the officials in Dubna.

The announcement of this agreement so soon after the staging of the 2004 Stop in Dubna confirms again the success of the commitment of the International Waterski Federation to bringing the sport to high profile downtown sites which have the required facilities. With 56 Media representatives and 10 TV crews in attendance at the recent Dubna Stop, the City will have a greatly increased profile in sports circles in the years to come. This 2005 agreement will secure the dates of July 30th/31st next year for the City of Dubna.  Other sponsors, Akrilan and MasterCraft have also agreed to support the 2005 event in Russia.
