2005 World Water Ski Racing Championships
British Water Ski (BWS) is delighted to announce that Great Britainís bid to host the 14th bi-annual championships has been approved by the International Water Ski Federation (IWSF).
In June 2005 the very best speed skiers with their boats and crews will arrive at Hunstanton in North-West Norfolk to compete over a series of four marathon races to establish top men and women in both formula 1 (up to 9.42 litres/575ci) and formula 2 (outboard Engine) categories. Junior (up to and including 16 years as at the 31st December 2004) boys and girls will also be competing for the titles of World Champion.
Teams will be competing from America, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain and, of course, Great Britain, who currently hold the team Bronze from Long Beach 2003, behind USA and Australia.
Current World Menís Champion, American Martie Wells, is expected to defend his title, as is Australian Ann Proctor, the Ladyís champion.† Top British contenders and medal hopes, Karl Brooks (4th Senior Men in 2003) and Kim Lumley (5th Lady in 2003) will be hoping home-water advantage will enhance their very realistic chances.
Speeds in excess of 100mph are likely with competitors racing over varying conditions on the offshore circuits of South Beach, Hunstanton.
Sponsorship opportunities exist for companies, organisations and individuals, with packages including corporate hospitality, advertising and branding.† This is a fantastic and unique opportunity to be associated with one of the fastest and most exciting of all water sports.
Great Britain last hosted these Championships in 1979, the inaugural year.† The Organisers are already working hard to ensure that the 14th Championships from 11th to 19th June will be the best yet.
