TO ALL FEDERATIONS

 

Arrangements for the Championships are well under way and going well. Could all Federations who have not advised their intention to compete, please do so by 18 February 2005. The Preliminary Entry form and Skiers Cv is attached for your convenience and has to be submitted by 21 March 2005.

 

To date we have received notification from the following Federations – Australia, Canada, France, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA.

 

Host Town - Witbank

Witbank is approximately 100km from Johannesburg International Airport. The average temperature(Celsius) in this region during the month of April: Daily maximum = 25, Daily minimum = 9.

Competition Site

The competition will be held from the grounds of the Hermansdal Lodge, 5km outside Witbank, situated on the Olifants river bank.

 

The stretch of water is 2.5m deep, 30m wide and runs 1.2km in length. The site lies in an East to West direction.

 

 

 

The Lodge will enforce an entry fee to the site of US$3 per person per day.

Air Travel

The nearest Airport is the Johannesburg International (100km).

 

Land Transport

Officials & WBC Delegates – Transport pick up at designated times will be provided from the airport only on Sunday and Monday preceding the Championships and back to the airport on the Monday following the Championships. Officials and Delegates are required to advise the LOC via e-mail – info@2005barefootworlds.co.za of their arrival and departure dates by the 21st March 2005.

Teams will be required to make their own transport arrangements. By prior arrangement, teams can be met at the airport and accompanied to their hotel at a nominal cost.

Hotel to Site teams will be required to make their own transport arrangements.

 

Accommodation

The officials and WBC delegates will be hosted on site, Hermansdal Estate Lodge. Each individual is to advise the LOC via e-mail – info@2005barefootworlds.co.za of their accommodation requirements and arrival and departure dates by the 21st March 2005.

The Host Hotel for the teams is the Protea Hotel in Witbank and special discounted rates have been negotiated. When making the reservation please quote “barefoot worlds”, visa and mastercard credit cards are accepted. The hotel is 20km from the site. Catering Arrangements

Full on-site catering, breakfast, lunch and dinner, will be provided for the teams at reasonable costs. The Host Hotel rate does not include any meals. IWSF Officials will be provided all their meals free of charge.

 

 

Functions

A number of functions are being arranged throughout the Championships and will include:

 

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony will be held Monday evening at the Lodge. On conclusion of the opening ceremony, a finger supper will be provided for all at a cost of US$15. Skiers and IWSF Officials will be free of charge.

 

During the duration of the competition

There will be a variety of events for the evening meals arranged on site. Some of these will include traditional South African meals eg. braai, potjiekos etc. These events will be open for everyone to attend at the cost of US$15.

Entertainment on these evenings will include Zulu Dancers, Diamond Rush, Gum Boot Dancers and Musicians.

 

Awards Ceremony & Banquet

The Awards Ceremony and Banquet will be held on site on Sunday night. Official uniforms are to be worn by Teams and Officials. A three course sit down meal will be provided for all at a cost of US$25. Skiers and IWSF Officials will be free of charge.

 

Official Tournament Boats

The tow boats will be the Raven, built by Sensation, and powered by Yamaha 200V-Max outboard motors.

 

Official Tournament Tow Ropes

The official tow lines will be Spectra non-stretch lines.

 

Tower Start

There will be no tower start provided.

 

Competition Entry Details

As approved by the IWSF and WBC, Team skiers will be required to pay an entry fee of US$200 per skier. This fee will provide free entry to the Opening Function and Closing Banquet.

Independent skiers will pay US$70 for a single event, US$140 for two events and US$200 for three events. Free admission to the opening and closing banquets is limited to competitors who participate in 2 or 3 events.

 

ENTRY FORMS are available on the official web site and can be emailed to entries@2005barefootworlds.co.za  Late entry forms will be levied the Penalty fees as outlined in the World Rules.

 

Qualification Criteria for Independent Skiers

The 20th place scores to be used as the qualification criteria for independent skiers wishing to enter the 2005 IWSF World Junior & Senior Barefoot Championships will be taken from the current 2004 standings lists published on 7 Jan 2005 using scores registered during the 2004 season.   These are as follows:-

Insurance & Liability

Skiers are expected to have their own insurance and all contestants will be required to sign an indemnity form on registration. Each junior contestant must have his/her adult parent or legal guardian sign the indemnity form.

 

Drug Testing

In accordance with International Water Ski Federation (IWSF) Anti Doping Policy, drug testing may be undertaken by the South African Sports Drug Agency on any day of the competition.

 

Familiarization

As detailed in the IWSF/WBC rule book (rule C210), each team skier will receive 8 minutes familiarization time. After the Intent to Enter forms are received, a schedule will be finalized and circulated. Individual entrants will receive 3 minutes of familiarization time for each event entered up to a maximum of 8 minutes.

 

Pre-Worlds Training

The boats will be hired, with a driver, at the cost of US$100 per hour and includes fuel.
