IWSF Announces Site For
2004 World University Championships
In a huge move for both the sport of water skiing and the
IWSF's fledging University program, the IWSF World University
Commission announced today that the 2004
World University Championships will be held in Balakovo, Russia. ...AND...
the Championships will be recognized and sanctioned by The International
University Sports Federation (FISU).
"This is a huge advancement for both university skiing and the sport
in general" says
IWSF World University Chairman, Phil Chase. "The sport owes a great deal
of gratitude to IWSF President, Kuno Ritschard, who took the point in FISU
negotiations to help make this happen".
FISU is the international governing body for university sports. It sponsors
both the Winter Universiade and Summer Universiade (World University Games) and
sanctions World University Championships for 26 sports.
Dates for the tournament have yet to be set and will be announced on the IWSF and
University websites as soon as they are available.
